After a four week break, Barracudas kicked off at lunchtime for this first meeting of the season between these two sides. Barracudas had been on a good run before the month’s rest and were keen to continue where they’d left off.
The first half was very even with neither side able to create a lot of good opportunities. If anything, Barracudas were slightly on top, but without creating many clear cut chances. At the other end, it was credit to the Barracudas’ defensive line of Hugo and George (ably assisted by Louie and Ollie at certain times), along with the ever reliable Charlie in goal, that Valley Green weren’t allowed many opportunities. With no goals at the interval, there was all to play for in the second half.
Early in the second half, Barracudas started to take control of the match. Jesse was first on the scoresheet, dispossessing an opponent on the left hand side, taking a touch and then firing in for a well taken goal.
Soon after, Tyler added to the score with a long range effort, which wrong-footed the goalkeeper and flew high into the net.
With Barracudas now dominating, Barracudas were able to score again. A perfect through ball from Jack found Josh in a one on one with the goalkeeper, who he calmly rounded and slotted home.
Credit to Valley Green Vikings who didn’t give up and were then awarded a penalty. However, Charlie made a fantastic save to his right to keep his amazing run of games / minutes without conceding going for a little longer.
Valley Green weren’t deterred though and finally scored with a well struck shot into the corner, which Charlie could do nothing about. That goal finally ended a record breaking run of minutes for the Barracudas without conceding – now to start another one!
There were no more goals and in the end it became a fairly comfortable afternoon for Barracudas. The defending was solid and in the second half in particular Barracudas had a strong attacking threat, with Jack, Jesse, Tyler and Zak all supporting Josh well going forward.
Charlie received an honourable mention for another really solid performance in goal – he didn’t put a foot wrong, had a safe pair of hands and also made a great penalty save!
However, the Man of the Match trophy was awarded to Jesse, who put in a hard working, energetic performance in midfield, helping out at both ends of the pitch which was topped off by scoring a really good goal!
