After an impeccably observed two minutes silence for Remembrance Sunday, Barracudas lined up against brand new opposition in Writtle Minors Athletic.
It was clear from the outset that this was going to be a tough test, with the opposition looking strong and organised. However, Barracudas acquitted themselves well and matched their opponents throughout the first half. Both defences were disciplined and difficult to get past and with neither side able to make the breakthrough, unusually the match was goalless at half time.
Barracudas were playing well and deservedly scored early in the second half with a great move, culminating in a perfectly weighted through ball from Zak into the path of Tyler, who running on, made no mistake, striking low and hard beyond the Writtle keeper.
The game continued to ebb and flow, with attacks and a number of corners at both ends. Writtle were next on the scoresheet when a corner flashed across goal and found it’s way in off the far post for a slightly fortuitous goal. It wasn’t until fairly late on that Writtle scored another with a good strike from inside the area.
Barracudas continued to press and battle to the very end and were undone with a breakaway in what proved to be the last action of the game, when a mix up allowed Writtle to tap one in from close range.
Barracudas played a different formation in this match to previous ones, with two at the back and this seemed to give the team better shape.
Every player gave their all and provided our strong opponents with a really stern test. Barracudas’ passing at times in this match was the best it has been so far this season. There were plenty of positives and reason for optimism in the weeks ahead.
Captain Jack received an honourable mention for leading by example and showing the way with his determination and battling qualities, but the Man of the Match trophy was awarded to George, who in just his fourth appearance for the club, showed a lot of ability, was very composed on the ball and his passing and decision making in the match were excellent.
