This week, the Barracudas not only had to battle hard against an excellent Great Notley side, but they had to do it in cold, wet conditions – something that the team hadn’t been used to playing in for some time!
With some doubt as to whether the match would go ahead, the decision was made to play and for the third consecutive week, the Barracudas were shooting up the slope for the first half. The opening exchanges were quite even with just a few half chances and both teams’ defences standing strong. Eventually, Great Notley started to gain the upper hand and scored with a good run down the left, finishing from a tight angle.
The second half began with all to play for, but with the conditions not ideal for either playing or watching in, Great Notley began to dominate and the Barracudas had goalkeeper Charlie to thank for a number of amazing saves to keep the team in the game. Great Notley did then manage to score a second, but it took a wonder goal to beat Charlie, with a quality strike into the top corner.
This seemed to spur the Barracudas into life and with one last push, they managed to get on the scoresheet themselves – good work on the left from Jack and Louie resulted in Josh finding space and converting the opportunity to bring the Barracudas back into the match. Despite a late rally, there were no further goals but the boys did themselves justice in difficult conditions.
Ollie won the Man of the Match trophy for a terrific battling performance and actually seemed to thrive on the cold, wet conditions! Well done to all the boys (and supporters) who braved the conditions and made a good game of it, keeping it close against very assured opponents.
