Barracudas’ second match back in the Crouch Division saw them face Great Bradfords Tigers at Laundry Lane. Barracudas had only met their opponents once before and it also happened to be the very first match that the team ever played, back in September 2016. That was a high scoring affair and this match also proved to be very entertaining.
With Barracudas and Great Bradfords both having the bare minimum seven players (with no subs), it was set to be a tiring match for those playing. Conditions were wet underfoot and it did rain for a period of the match making it even tougher for those on the pitch battling it out. Both teams were however in the same boat.
Barracudas were first to get off the mark with a nice goal in the sixth minute. Ollie M made a long crossfield pass to Zak, who in turn spotted Josh in space. Josh collected Zak’s pinpoint pass and drove forward, finishing low into the corner beyond the keeper.
Great Bradfords were well in the game though and came close themselves when a shot came back off the underside of the bar. Barracudas also had Charlie in goal to thank with a couple of terrific saves to keep the opposition out during this period of the game.
Barracudas scored again shortly after, when a Great Bradfords player, in trying to clear for a corner hit the post, the ball rebounding to Josh, who hit the other post but Ollie M was on hand to slide in and poach the second rebound from close range.
There was another goal before half time when Jack’s corner eluded everyone and crept into the far post without anyone getting a touch – not the first time we’ve seen Jack score direct from a corner!
The match had been more even than the goals tally would suggest so at half time it was important that Barracudas didn’t get complacent and they needed to go out with the same attitude as the first half.
Within thirty seconds of the restart, Great Bradfords had found the net, which on the balance of play was deserved.
Barracudas then scored again with a speculative long range attempt from Jack - with Zak steaming in to pounce on any possible rebounds, he did enough to distract the goalkeeper for the ball to find it’s way straight into the net!
Before the end, Great Bradfords scored again and at this stage of the match it was important that the team kept their defensive discipline – Ollie C did a great job as always, mopping up as last man, with Louie also doing an excellent job covering and getting up and down the pitch on the left hand side.
It was a good competitive match, played in the right spirit and another excellent performance by Barracudas, who are improving each week.
Jack received an honourable mention for leading by captain’s example again whilst also notching a couple of goals, but the Man of the Match trophy was awarded to Ollie M for a tremendous battling performance (he thrives in the wet, muddy conditions!), showing great energy and for finding the net with a nicely taken goal.
