In a lunchtime kick off, Barracudas went into this match in confident mood, having played well recently and put together a good run of results. Conditions were difficult with it being very windy, raining for parts of the match and even hailing for a short time!
Barracudas started well and were first to get off the mark when Jack played a through ball to Josh, who advanced towards goal past a defender, then sidestepped the keeper and finished from a tight angle.
It was a fairly close game for long periods of the first half but Barracudas scored again before half time when a ball across from the right fell to Louie on the edge of the box, who connected superbly, hitting it first time into the bottom corner – a great strike!
Braintree started the second half on a mission to turn the game around and pulled a goal back early on, but after that wake up call the match was dominated by Barracudas. Josh was next on the scoresheet when he ran towards goal on the right hand side, before taking the ball round the keeper and finishing with the outside of his boot – a nicely taken goal.
The next Barracudas’ goal was a really good team effort. Jack played a lovely pass down the right hand side to Josh, who ran forward with the ball, crossing beyond the keeper to Zak, who had taken up the perfect position to tap home from close range.
Barracudas were dominant by this stage of the match and it was no surprise when the next goal arrived – Tyler, who not for the first time in the match, went on a mazy run, past several players, finishing with a strike from the edge of the box past the keeper.
There was still time for one more Barracudas goal. Josh held the ball up and laid it off to George, who hit a cracking left footed strike from the edge of the area which flew in off the bar into the top corner – what a hit!
This was a good display of attacking football, rewarded with six really good goals. Josh, Tyler and Zak were a real handful for the Braintree defence while the defensive line of Ollie C, Jesse and Alfie were solid, with Jack, Louie, George and Ollie M working hard at both ends. Charlie in goal didn’t have a lot to do but put in a faultless display, staying alert and mopping up when required. Considering the grim weather conditions, this was an excellent Barracudas’ performance.
George received an honourable mention (again!) for his great work in midfield and scoring a brilliant goal! Josh also received an honourable mention for his attacking play which was rewarded with two goals and two assists.
The Man of the Match trophy however was awarded to Louie, who thoroughly deserved it after putting in an exceptional performance, in both defence and midfield, was positionally excellent, went on one amazing ‘Gazza-style’ run in the first half past a number of Braintree players and also popped up with a really well taken goal.
