Barracudas faced Danbury & Bicknacre Blues for the third time this season, with both previous matches having been very competitive. This match proved that the two sides are very evenly matched and in a good quality encounter, both teams passed the ball nicely and showed excellent discipline defensively, which meant opportunities were difficult to come by.
There were only a handful of half chances for both sides in the first half, with both goalkeepers able to tidy up anything that did get past the resolute defences.
With no goals in the first half, there was all to play for in the second period, but the match followed a similar pattern with defences on top with good support from the midfield. Although Barracudas were more than holding their own, it was Danbury who had the two best opportunities, both coming towards the end of the second half.
Firstly, Danbury were awarded a penalty, but Charlie did enough to distract their player, who missed the target. Secondly, a Danbury player finally found a way through the Barracudas’ defence in a one-on-one, but Charlie made a vital diving save down to his right, tipping the ball round the post. It was another great save to add to his collection for the season!
In the end, there was nothing between these sides and it was the first time in Barracudas’ history that there were no goals in a match! Pleasingly, this was the third consecutive game that Barracudas kept a clean sheet and goes to show the recent improvement in the team’s defending.
The whole outfield team of Ollie C, Jesse, George, Hugo, Alfie, Jack, Zak, Tyler and Josh received honourable mentions for such a committed, battling display but the Man of the Match trophy was rightly awarded to goalkeeper Charlie, for another clean sheet, which included a fantastic stop towards the end which saved the match for his team.
