Broomfield Youth Jaguars U9s v Dunmow United Barracudas U9s

13/1/2019

Barracudas’ second match of 2019 was their third away match in succession and the first ever meeting between these two teams. With a full squad of eleven players, Barracudas began brightly and with less than a minute on the clock, opened the scoring when Josh beat a defender before firing low beyond the keeper.
Barracudas continued to press forward and create opportunities. Josh made a couple of good runs before shooting, but found the keeper in excellent form on each occasion. Zak also wasn’t far away when he shot just wide with a good effort.

Barracudas came close again when George created an opportunity for himself, struck it well, but the keeper made another excellent save to tip it onto the crossbar. So unlucky!

Just as the Barracudas defence had been seemingly untroubled, came the sucker punch - with Broomfield breaking and getting themselves on the scoresheet. At this point Broomfield visibly grew in confidence and were then able to score again shortly after.

Barracudas were still pressing though and a nice run from Tyler led to him shooting from an angle, this time striking the far post and coming back out. So unlucky again!

Broomfield then managed to break away again to score to give themselves some breathing space.

There was still time in the first half for one more attack from Barracudas – Tyler being upended in the penalty area but the resulting penalty was again stopped by the keeper, who was having a tremendous game.

In the second half, it was clear that it wasn’t going to be Barracudas’ day when they hit the woodwork for the third time in the match with Tyler’s looping shot bouncing back off the bar and Louie coming close to converting the rebound.

There wasn’t much Barracudas could do about Broomfield’s next goal – a long range free kick which flew into the far corner – there was no stopping that – a quality goal!

Barracudas kept trying and nearly scored again when Josh played a through ball to Zak, who swivelled with a first time shot which went only just wide of the post.

Broomfield added another goal near the end to cap a good day for them and a really unlucky one for Barracudas!

Josh received an honourable mention for his work rate and scoring a nicely taken goal but the Man of the Match trophy was awarded to Alfie, who had an excellent game, working really hard, showing some nice touches, getting up and down the pitch, helping both defend and supporting the attacks.
