Finishing the year on a high with another victory
With this being the last game before Christmas it was important that we finished on a high. The boys did us proud.
The game started well, with Dunmow Sharks making the early running and putting pressure on the opposition, with Jake, Elliott and Liam all making good runs with the ball looking for an opening.
The honour once again fell to Jake to score the opening goal, assisted by some hard work from Elliott and Harry in the middle of the park. The opposition then struck back with some of their own pressure and good play scoring past Jack who again volunteered to go into goal for the first half.
As in our first game, the game was open with both teams pushing for more goals, it was Liam’s turn to score his first goal for the club, and richly deserved too, this time Jake and Elliott providing the assistance. The opposition then made some substitutions which paid off straight away, with them gathering the ball in the middle of the park and, with fantastic effort, lobbing Jack from some distance. Jack with all his effort managed to get his hands to the ball but was unable to prevent it from going into the goal.
With the game drawn and fast approaching half time the Sharks managed to get themselves back in front with a strike from Elliott, this time with Josh and Harry being there to assist. During the first half there were chances for everybody to score, so I have no doubt that Harry and Josh will score for the club soon.
As the second half was about to start Harry volunteered to take the gloves from Jack, the game started as the 1st half finished with both teams pushing for another goal; the Sharks to extend their lead and the opposition to draw level. After a couple of scares and some good saves from Harry the Sharks managed to get the goal to extend their lead, this time it was Jack who scored fresh from his goalkeeping duties, picking the ball up and driving through the middle of the park, the opposition pulled a goal back after some confusion from the Sharks defenders. A little into the second half, Liam kindly took over the gloves from Harry giving him another chance on pitch.
With the game finely balanced the opposition pulled one back with some smart play, not willing to accept defeat.
After some intense play at both ends, the Sharks were awarded a corner, this was taken by Jack and it was delivered towards to the front post, as if it was a rehearsed move (and only the boys will be able to answer this) Jake stole in at front post to touch home his second goal of the game. This restored our buffer of a couple of goals. But opposition fought back again, getting a goal back, never giving up and not accepting that they might lose the game.
After some good play, the Sharks were awarded a free kick in the middle of the park, after some debating who would take it Jack stepped up. He hit his shot on goal, and somehow it managed to go in to the delight of the team.. Once again giving the Sharks an important goal cushion.
With the time rapidly running out, and to the credit and determination of the opposition they managed to score the final goal of the game, this made for a tense last few seconds but the Sharks managed to hold on and secure the second win out of three games.
So after winning, the team can head into Christmas full of confidence and proud of themselves.
Well Done Sharks.
