We started the game brightly, making most of the running and passing the ball better than we did the previous week, with Giacomo, Freddie and Liam all making telling runs from the middle of the park. Aidan and Jake were providing extremely good width which seemed to be causing the opposition trouble and creating lots of space in the middle of the opposition’s box.
After a number of dangerous crosses from Jake and Aidan, it looked like it was only a matter of time before the Sharks opened the scoring. With the Sharks Defending well, and playing the ball early the Sharks managed to make the break through. The ball was played into the box by Jake, and Freddie aka ‘the pocket rocket’ managed to get onto the end of the cross, controlled the ball and slotted home calmly. A well deserved goal for both the team and Freddie too.
With the Sharks now leading, the game opened up more, as the opposition tried hard to draw level and pressed hard, with a spell of pressure and some brave goal keeping from Jack we managed to retain the lead and also extend our lead by another goal. This was scored again by Freddie and rightly deserved too, working hard for the team and himself, he found himself in space in front of goal and smashed the ball home.
With the first half coming to a close, the opposition had a good chance to pull a goal back, but never managed to take advantage of it as they were denied by another good save from Jack. So the Sharks finished the first half in a controlling position and were looking forward to pushing on in the second half.
With the second half about to start Liam went into goal, allowing Jack to come on to the pitch, the game picked up as the Sharks had left the first half, with biting tackles from Caleb, Dylan and Elliott the Sharks were retaining possession well and creating more chances to score goals. The possession paid off, with Giacomo scoring another goal, this is now his third goal in as many games, he managed to break through the middle of the park with options either side of him in Jake and Freddie but choose to go alone and scored a good goal.
With the game now getting away from the opposition, the Sharks kept pushing for more goals, and they dually came. Big credit must be given to Caleb, with his desire to press the ball in the oppositions half the ball broke to Jake (who was the Sharks leading scorer last season) collected the ball and scored his first goal of the season.
Now the Sharks were in a commanding position, and to be honest the boys started to forget to pass the ball and started running with the ball more, something that they were reminded of very swiftly. It was Aiden’s turn to score a goal, his first for the club and he took it very well. The chance came about after some strong running from Elliott and Dylan that created the opportunity for Aidan to score.
With the game drawing to a close and the Sharks in a very strong position, Giacomo managed to grab himself his second of the game, with the ball making its way to him in the oppositions half he drove forward with the ball into the oppositions box and unleashed an unstoppable shot that ripped into net, a great goal and all round good performance from the boys. As the final whistle blew there was one last chance for the opposition, but Liam somehow managed to save it. I don’t think the on looking supporters could believe it. This meant that the Sharks had managed to keep a clean sheet for the first time in their history and to score and number of goals without reply.
Well done boys well deserved and this should fill them with confidence for our up and coming games.
