Great Notley Jaguars vs DUFC Vikings

1/5/2018

Our 1st game with all the current 10 Vikings and against, what I believe to be the best team we have played this year.
Picture
Starting off with Josh, Angus (C), William, Cullen , Bastien & Jess we soon got into the game on a pitch that could have benefited from the Council cutting ! Glad to have Josh back in goal which the players liked (although Angus, Joe, William & Rohan have all stepped up and played well in goal lately),  we quickly got into a nice rhythm with a few darting runs and passes around the pitch. Despite this, they were lively and had a strong player who was a threat from the start. Angus deploying his covering runs brilliantly and covered us with a last ditch saving tackle. Josh quickly saved another effort. After this early equal play, we let them in and they scored twice in succession.  Bringing on Cullen & Maksim gave us some more attacking play, with William doing a lovely run, having his shot saved but Cullen followed up and slotted home. They scored again before a cracking effort from Cullen was saved but smashed home by Maksim. Maksim was also getting back today and helping defence.

This woke them up and there man of the match, quickly scored 2 before half time. The score didn't reflect the play at that stage but the Vikings came out second half with the bit between their teeth. Henry, Joe & Rohan all getting equal time and adding to our options. Maksim went in goal and was a cracking goalkeeper, showing his talents he had from his Rhodes days. William scored a lovely solo goal, running through their team and ending with a 1 on 1. Buoyed up Vikings quickly added another through the classiest of goals, Henry receiving the ball in the area before dragging back and slotting home so effortlessly. Rohan was supporting our defense and breaking up play and is gradually becoming part of the team after only a few games.
They scored in reply before Angus put one in the bottom corner. Maksim saved another effort and was calm on the ball, playing like a sweeper keeper ! Joe was tearing up the park and had a lovely shot saved before just dragging one wide when he could have scored. Bastien made a lovely weaving run and stopped at the last minute the ball fell to Jess and for the second week running, she buried it. Not over yet, we got a penalty which Joe absolutely smashed in. The game ended close and both Managers and Parents were enthralled by the competative nature of the game played in a great spirit. Really chuffed on how much we are developing as a whole team, and not relying on a few. This will help us next year when we step up to 7 vs 7.
