Dunmow Utd Stingrays vs Hedingham United Youth.

11/12/2016

11 Dec 2016 Match report. The 2nd game in two days for the Stingrays was away to Hedingham United Youth, on a pitch more akin to a bumpy ski slope!
The Stingrays kicked off playing uphill which for 15 minutes the home team could not take advantage of with the Stingrays usual resolute defending by captain of the day George D, George W and Ollie R plus getting forward with pace on the counter attack when in possession with Zach, Christian and Jasiu flying down the wings and Ollie W battling away in the centre.

Unfortunately the Stingrays finally conceded after a fine save from Freddie to push the ball onto the post was not cleared and Hedingham forced home from close range. The goal seemed to stun the Stingrays who then proceeded to concede 3 further goals before half time.

After a half time talk to remind the boys that they cannot afford to switch off at any time, that they are still in this game plus refuelled by the usual half time snack of jaffa cakes, the Stingrays came out all guns blazing determined to show how they can play football and proceeded to batter Hedingham for most of the next 25 minutes with attempts on goal racking up with our 2nd half goal keeper George W making only one save of note in return.

Unfortunately the Hedingham keeper - who always looked to kick long in route one style from a goal kick in the 2nd half to account for the slope, was probably the best shot stopper we have come up against and he saved at least 5 that against anyone else would of been certain goals plus our boys never getting that slice of luck on the rebounds. Unfortunately we only managed one in reply with another fine finish by Ryan but the boys deserved a lot more.

Well played boys - the result did not reflect the overall performance against a team who used knowledge of their own pitch to their advantage.
