The first tournament of the summer season saw the Piranhas travel over to the Maldon and Tiptree stadium for an evening event. It is a tournament that we have played previously and are always keen to revisit as it is well run and the teams enjoy it.

The Piranhas were drawn in the ‘Ronaldo’ group and would face some familiar foes as well as a team not faced previously:
  • Maldon & Tiptree Panthers
  • Dunmow Rhodes Tigers
  • Broomfield Knights
  • SWF Pumas
  • Springfield FC

The matches were fast and furious and were always preceded with the teams lining up in the tunnel and being hyped up by the organisers! There was great excitement from everyone.
The Piranhas were slightly depleted with Tom A away on international duty and Louis F failing a late fitness test.

The Piranhas looked sharp in every game and outplayed their opponents in the first four matches, however, were struggling to convert the chance to make the games more comfortable.

By the time they reached the final game against Springfield, there were tired legs and tired minds and the performance level dropped off a little.

The boys had a great evening and did themselves proud and their supporters were out in full force to cheer them on.

Roll on the rest of the tournament season!

Just when we all thought the season was over, a final fixture popped up out of the blue to face an old rival, Dunmow Rhodes Tigers.

The team would be keen to play well against their old foe, with Rhodes certainly having the better of the derbies this season.

Tom A was back from international duty and Louis F passed a fitness test to come back into the team, however, Leo M and Harry H were now away on international duty!

Mark Francis stepped up to referee the match and got the game underway.

Things didn’t start too well for the boys, with an early penalty being awarded to the visitors.  Their main striker stepped up but saw his spot-kick saved by the nimble Charlie W.

The penalty save seemed to kick the Piranhas into gear and they put on a real performance, passing out from the back, interchanging positions and playing free-flowing football.  The only trouble they were facing was that they came up against a goalkeeper in inspired form.

The match went the same way as the tournament, with the team dominating the match but unable to find the back of the net, where-as Rhodes scored with their next two chances!
Etien H was MOTM for his composure on the ball and always picking out the right pass.

Many thanks to Mark for refereeing this game.

The season is now definitely over and big thanks to Ross for his help with the lads over the term and to the supporters for coming out every week, whatever the weather.

We now look forward to Stamford Bridge, despite the disruption caused by Chelsea winning the Premier League! and the rest of the tournament season.

Well done lads!
