After an excellent start to the season the previous Sunday, the Barracudas came up against formidable opponents in Galleywood Youth Eagles, who had been playing in the highest division last season. Based on their performance in this match, it is unlikely to be long before they return where they came from!
With a full squad of 11, the Barracudas started the match shooting up the slight slope and it wasn’t long before Galleywood opened the scoring. Despite some gallant battling from the team, the first half was difficult and Galleywood, who appeared to have few weaknesses, were able to get on the scoresheet a further four times.
The second half was a different story however and the team came out with renewed focus. The defending was a lot more solid, the midfield had better shape and there were even a few half chances to score, but the Barracudas found the Galleywood keeper in fine form and were unable to get past him.
Defensively, no goals were conceded in the second half, with Charlie on his debut, making a number of fantastic saves, one in particular that was tipped onto the crossbar that was particularly impressive. Louie also had an excellent match, firstly playing in midfield, winning a lot of tackles and making intelligent passes, and then covering in defence when our captain Jack was forced off by injury.
There is plenty to work on but it was an encouraging second half performance in which the team kept a clean sheet - and there won’t be many tougher matches this season than this one and would expect Galleywood to earn promotion back to the top flight sooner rather than later.
Well done to the boys for a battling second half performance and to Charlie who was awarded the Man of the Match trophy for an impressive debut in goal!
