This was Barracudas’ second consecutive away match to a Broomfield team and was played on the same pitch as the previous one. The conditions for this match were very different to the last one however, with it being very wet underfoot.
Barracudas started well but it was Broomfield who opened the scoring in the 3rd minute of the game when a lob was very nearly tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Charlie, who got a hand to it, but it just looped into the net.
Within five minutes, Barracudas got themselves on the scoresheet when a surging run from Tyler, led to him being brought down on the edge of the penalty area. It was a close call as to whether it was inside or outside, but the resulting free kick was dispatched anyway, low into the corner by Tyler himself.
It was a very even game with some good passing football being displayed by both teams. It was Broomfield who were next to score in the 15th minute with a nicely taken finish into the corner through a crowd of players.
The next goal went to Barracudas, a few minutes before half time, with Zak showing some excellent footwork before playing the ball into the path of Josh, whose right footed shot took a deflection into the top right hand corner.
At half time there was all to play for – these were two evenly matched teams and it was a good game of football despite the wet conditions.
Broomfield had a golden opportunity early in the second half when one of their players was brought down in a near identical position to the one in the first half which had led to the free kick for Barracudas’ first goal. This time it was deemed to be a penalty but Charlie in goal did enough to distract the Broomfield player to shoot wide of the post.
Barracudas worked hard, the match became tight and one that could have gone either way but midway through the second half, Broomfield scored again with a nice goal from a flowing move.
Barracudas continued to press forward but were undone once more with a breakaway goal towards the end. As Barracudas pushed players forward, gaps were left at the back and a Broomfield player was left unmarked to complete an easy finish.
This was a good, close entertaining game, with plenty of positives, but also highlighted some areas of improvement to work on in training.
George received an honourable mention for his excellent passing, disciplined play and a general all round good game but the Man of the Match trophy was awarded to debutant Jesse, whose workrate was exceptional, played some lovely passes and was strong defensively too – an excellent performance in his first ever game for Barracudas.
